傳真·便函和電子郵件的格式相似，開頭不必寫地址還有Dear sir/Madam/Mr Smith,結尾也不必用特定的套語，直接簽名就可以了。
但是商業信函和email就比較正式。一般是右上角寫上你的地址，寫信要不知其名時可用：Dear Sir, Dear Madam, Dear Sirs,Dear Sir/Madam (上述幾種經常用於英國英語)；
要稱呼其名時，用頭銜或姓：Dear Dr Smith (BrE), Dear Dr. Smith (AmE), 差別很細微就一個點，注意你的客戶是英國的還是美國的。
結束語，美國人一般用：Sincerely, Sincerely Yours, Yours Truly, 在英國英語中，如果前面稱呼其名，結尾就用 Yours sincerely.如果是Dear Sir /Madam開頭,結尾就用Yours faithfully.
你的地址可以寫在右上角，日期寫在左右均可。
